strop detail

Stropping the sharpened edge on leather loaded with a buffing compound is the final step that ensures a shaving-sharp result. The strop shown here is an old belt the author purchased at a thrift store and glued to a scrap of lumber. Stroke equally on each bevel, alternating sides and pushing away from the cutting edge to achieve a mirror polish. The occasional sharpener can simply use a leather belt hung from a door knob.
